Greetings, my name is Jill Spiro and I am a botanical artist based in New Jersey. I have always been drawn to the beauty found outdoors. My sense of wonder invites me to explore, as well as understand the environment around me. How about you? Have you ever pondered about how a leaf stain appears on the sidewalk? The answer lies in the secret power of the leaf; it’s tannins! Combining heat, pressure and moisture, I am able to capture this same magic in my prints and on my scarves.

Make it organic

My journey into eco-printing began following a workshop led by the acclaimed artist, India Flint. Over time, I developed my own unique style, adding dyes and other modifiers to achieve the desired outcome I was looking for.

Another artist that influenced my work is Jane Dunnewold, the founder of an eco-printed technique using a heat press. This method has certain advantages over the traditional bundle and steam method depicted below.
